THE GREAT OUTDOORS
A breath of fresh air
There is an abundance of local walks, hiking trails and cycle paths right on our doorstep catering for all ages and all fitness levels. From a gentle walk along the path that follows the winding River Maigue to a more challenging hike to the top of Knockfierna, passing a number of reconstructed cottages that were abandoned during the famine along the way.
Railway enthusiasts will love the Great Southern Trail, a 96km (60 miles) stretch of countryside which follows the route of the former Limerick to Tralee/Fenit railway line, ideal for both walking and cycling.
If you prefer to explore the local area by car or motorcycle, there are a number of scenic drives that take in beautiful countryside and spectacular coastal views. Our proximity to the Shannon Estuary and Wild Atlantic Way means you can be on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean within minutes, while the spectacular drive to Killarney and the world-renowned Ring of Kerry drive makes for a memorable day trip.
Right on our doorstep lies the Woodlands Walking Trail. Soak up the country scenery and sounds of the singing birds as you stroll through our organic vegetable garden and grounds on our 1.2km walking trail. You might even meet some Woodlands bunny rabbits or farm animals!
Other outdoor pursuits include horse-riding, fishing, surfing, diving, archery and even paint-balling. The nearby Ballyhoura Mountain Bike Trail comprises 98 kms of two-wheeled adventures in what is the largest trail network of its kind in Ireland. Or why not take to the water at the University of Limerick Sport Adventure Centre in Killaloe.
