GROUP SWIMMING LESSONS
CALLING MERMAIDS, SHARKS AND LITTLE FISHES
We offer regular children’s and adult group swimming lessons in our 20-metre heated indoor swimming pool. We offer member rates and non-members rates.
Lessons are provided by our own friendly, experienced instructors accustomed to working with people at all swimming levels, including those with a life-long phobia of swimming. We can help you overcome a fear, improve your technique and, ultimately, enjoy time in the water.
Children’s lessons are divided into both ability and age groups, while adult lessons are divided into ability groups. Courses comprise of 30-minute lessons once a week. We have various course lengths throughout the year, tailored to the school calendar. Courses vary from 4 to 10-week courses. There is a maximum of 8 people per group.
The groups are as follows:
ADULTS:
Beginner: This class is all about getting used to the water and the important basics such as learning to float, putting our face in water, how to streamline with a proper kicking technique, using our arms with a float and an introduction to breaststroke leg movements.
Improver: This class builds on the basics by concentrating on breathing techniques, swimming 10 metres or more, refining your breaststroke and introducing backstroke.
CHILDREN:
Tadpole: This is a water confidence class for children who are new to the pool and swimming. They will learn to put their face in the water, the basics of front and back crawl and have fun in the water with pool games.
Goldfish: A step-up from Tadpole, in this class they will learn the arm movements for front and back crawl. They will learn the basics of floating unassisted and diving to the bottom of the pool.
Sea Lion: Swimming longer distances, improving technique and preparing them for the deep end of the pool.
Dolphin: Breast stroke will be introduced here, as well as fine tuning the front and back stroke technique, swimming 20 metres at a time (one length of the pool).
Shark: This is the last class before moving on to lanes. Here they will work on improving distances by swimming lengths during the class. Diving from the edge of the pool will also be introduced.
Lanes: Swimming lengths, distance and technique will be tested and fine-tuned in this class.
Advanced Lanes: Higher intensity than the Lane Class, speed and power will be the priority.
If you aren’t sure which level your child is, we will be happy to provide a complimentary assessment to members and non-members and then recommend the most appropriate level.
